Khaptad National Park, commonly known as Khaptad is one of the twelve National Parks of Nepal It is located in the Far-Western region (Sudhur Paschim Pardesh). It was officially recognized as the National Park in the year 1984 AD. It is located in the area of 225 sq. km extended to the four districts i.e Bajura, Doti, Aachham, and Bajhang. One of the most interesting things about Khaptad is that it is also known as BhuSworga which means heaven on earth.
How To Reach Khaptad From Kathmandu?
If you are starting your journey from Kathmandu, you can take a bus or plane to reach Dhangadi which is around 650 km from the capital. From Dhangadi city, it takes around 7 to 8 hours to reach Silgadhi of Doti via bus route. On reaching the Silgadhi, it takes an additional one hour to reach the entrance of Khaptad National park. From there you can explore the Khaptad through hiking for those who have a great taste of natural beauty though it may be difficult for someone who is not used to walking.
One and foremost attraction of Khaptad is its natural beauty. It is located at 3000 meters from sea level consisting of many small and big grasslands, hills, and rocks. It is home to large rivers, rainforests, and huge landscapes. Its topography is very different from the rest of the National Parks. Its surrounds are covered with impressive, green bushland and indigenous forests. It is situated in the lap of mountains like Api and Saipal. One of the important features of the Khaptad is its religious importance. The place itself is sacred. It is believed that prayers with pure hearts are answered in Khaptad. Great sage-like Khaptad Baba and other many hermits once meditated there, It is said that Lord Shiva was so much fascinated about this place that once he wished to settle in Kedaratri Pravat in Khaptad considering it second Kailash. Though it is mythology only but the beauty and peace of this place can revive the ultimate energy from oneself. Khaptad Baba Kuti, Triveni river, Gadeshsthan, Nagdhunga, etc are others religiously important places there.
Although there are no proper facilities for the tourists who come to visit the place, the development and accommodation facilities are growing with the joint efforts of different concerned authorities. There are local hotels and few homestays that provide the fooding and lodging facilities in those remote areas. Still, by this date, the food items are taken to that place through planes and Khachad(mule). But efforts are being made to promote and provide facilities to the tourists coming to visit the beauty corner of Nepal.
